A Tuscan vineyard full of character

Deep in the hills of Tuscany, Tenuta Casenuove expresses the powerful but charming personality of one of the great Italian terroirs. The Chianti Classico is an area of steep, wild terrain, that produces elegant wines, and Tenuta Casenuove is one of its finest representative : silky, elegant and powerful wines.

Breathing new life into a domain in the heart of Chianti

Located at Panzano in Chianti, in Tuscany, an hour’s drive from Florence, Tenuta Casenuove covers an area of 105 hectares, spread over a succession of hills and valleys.

Long owned by the Gandolfini family, Tenuta Casenuove was acquired in 2014 by Philippe Austruy, who had already taken over the Commanderie de Peyrassol (2001), the Château Malescasse, a fine cru bourgeois in the Haut-Médoc, and the Quinta da Côrte. On first discovering the domaine, his reaction was exactly the same as for his other properties: love at first sight and a desire to restore these sadly neglected gems to their former glory and turn them into outstanding domaines, both in terms of their architecture and their wines.

Tenuta Casenuove : a domaine respectful of its terroir and traditions

Today the domaine covers 105 hectares including 65 hectares of forest, 2.5 hectares of olives and 28 hectares of vines, of which 14 are currently productive. The vines are scattered around the forest at an elevation of between 350 and 480 metres. The supreme variety, Sangiovese, occupies 10.5 hectares of the domaine and dictates the character of all the wines.

In addition to varieties, soil and climate of Tenuta Casenuove contribute to the finesse of wines : mixture of schists and clay, the famous “galestro” gives the wines their powerful elegance, when elevation allows grapes to ripen in a balanced and harmonious manner.

Finally, in accordance with its established philosophy, Vignobles Austruy applies gentle methods to nurturing the vines throughout the year.

Tenuta Casenuove wines

Tuscany – red

A blend of Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet, it is aged partly in casks and partly in stainless steel vats for 10 months. It is absolutely bursting with fruit – blackberry, raspberry, blackcurrant – enhanced with spicy notes against a background of fine, velvety tannins. It will keep for between 8 and 10 years.

Tuscany – red

This is the most accessible of our wines, deploying its charm and roundness to great effect. With a floral, fruity bouquet and smooth tannins, and full of character, it is typical of the modern Chiantis: loads of fresh ripe fruit and a winning personality.

Tuscany – red

This is the flagship wine of the domaine. Blended from Sangiovese and Merlot, it is aged in casks and demi-muids for 18 months. Concentrated, full-bodied and spicy, it will keep for more than 15 years.

Environmental compliant

All of our wine methods are based on sustainable agriculture. No synthetic fertilisers are used, only organic. And no herbicides are used: the different grape varieties all find their own way of achieving a balance which strengthens them, and the only soil treatments required are copper- and sulphur-based (Bordeaux mixture).

Since 2015, we produce Chianti Classico DOCG, Chianti Classico Riserva and IGT, along with a splendid and fruity olive oil.

An ancient tradition

Tenuta Casenuove has old roots : its first mention bring us back to the beginning of the 17th century, where the local farms created a self-contained agricultural community. Throughout centuries, Casenuove property kept its traditional polyculture vocation.
