Tenuta Casenuove – Chianti Classico Riserva 2016
A very well-balanced wine, with a high keeping potential. A nose that exhales riped red-fruit aromas, great concentration on the palate, accompanied by balsamic notes. The finish is spicy, long and well balanced.
Soil: Clay-limestone and schists. Slopes with South-South-West exposure
Varieties: Sangiovese 85%, Merlot 12%, Cabernet Sauvignon 3%.
Winemaking: Entirely hand-harvested, the bunches go through a double selection process. Individual grape varieties ferment in epoxy-lined concrete tanks. Maceration up to 30 days, carefully evaluating tannin structure and wine extraction in order to favour the aromatic profile of each grape variety. Average yield is 20 hl/ha.
2016 Vintage: Harvest started later compared to theprevious year, due to chilly and wet weather during springtime. The vines went through a time of stress due to the excess of humidity in the soil. This was however resolved in the summer, with the absence of any major rainfall events. Harvest was completed by mid- October and was concentrated within a couple of weeks. A meticulous selection work was necessary both in the vineyard and at grape reception.
Ageing: Mainly 5 hl tonneaux and 25 hl casks (first use) for 12 months.
Tasting notes: Deep red ruby in colour. The nose reveals scents of ripe red and black fruit. Great concentration on the palate, accompanied by balsamic notes. The finish is spicy, long and well balanced.
Pairings: Aged cheese, baked pasta dishes, veal, braised meats…
Consultant : Stéphane Derenoncourt.
Cellaring potential: 10 to 15 years.
